Singapore is strengthening its presence in Latin America through new bilateral agreements that advance international climate cooperation under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
On April 1 and April 7, 2025, Singapore signed bilateral agreements with Perú and Chile, respectively, formalizing the commitments made under previously signed MOUs. These agreements establish clear frameworks for exchanging Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) and mark a concrete step forward in Singapore's regional engagement.
Additionally, Singapore has an existing MOU with Paraguay, signed in December 2023, reinforcing its broader strategy to expand cooperation in Latin America.
Through these agreements, Latin America strengthens its role in international climate cooperation, facilitating new opportunities for sustainable projects to access funding and contribute to emission reduction goals.
Key highlights of the Latam-Singapore agreements are:
Facilitate international transfers of emission reductions.
Encourage investments in sustainable development projects.
Broaden avenues for carbon credit exchange under bilateral frameworks.
Singapore's engagement with Latin America reflects a shared commitment to advancing climate action through collaboration under the Paris Agreement.
