Tsumugi turns global SDGs into everyday action in Renca

As part of the City-to-City Collaboration between Renca and Toyama, the digital platform Tsumugi, which means silk thread in Japanese, which was already implemented in Renca to track and visualize municipal contributions across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was presented to Chile’s Ministry of Social Development as an example of how local governments can translate global goals into concrete community actions.

By collecting and organizing data from municipal departments, Tsumugi provides a clear picture of how public policies, local initiatives, and citizen efforts contribute to each of the SDGs. This approach helps bridge the gap between national frameworks and local realities, empowering residents to see how their everyday actions support broader sustainability targets.

The discussion with the Ministry and UN Global Compact Chile highlighted the potential for scaling the tool across other municipalities, strengthening consistency between community-level data and national SDG reporting.

Tsumugi’s experience in Renca demonstrates how digital tools can make the SDGs tangible — transforming them from distant global objectives into shared, measurable milestones for every neighborhood.
