City-to-City partnerships driving innovation in circular economy
As part of the City-to-City Collaboration between Renca and Toyama, the Japanese delegation visited the Centro Inclusivo de Reciclaje (CIR) in Maipú, managed by Kyklos, to learn about Chile’s circular-economy initiatives and explore future areas of cooperation.
At the CIR, recyclable materials are sorted, processed, and reintegrated into production chains, combining social inclusion with environmental impact. The center employs local workers, demonstrating how waste management can generate jobs while reducing landfill dependency.
During the visit, participants discussed how Japanese recycling models could complement Kyklos’s inclusive approach — for instance, by improving material traceability, enhancing community participation, and connecting the system to carbon-credit mechanisms under Article 6.
The exchange highlighted how both countries can align technological innovation with social sustainability, turning recycling into a tangible tool for climate action and equitable growth.
